About

a22music

Ed and Hamish have been playing and performing together since 2009, building a long-standing creative partnership rooted in musical depth, trust and experimentation.
Their first documented collaboration, The Shakedown, was recorded and mixed at Abbey Road Studios in 2018, setting the tone for a body of work defined by musicality and sonic detail. Subsequently, they have released several albums on Ed’s prestigious 22a label, a platform recognised internationally for its forward-thinking jazz and contemporary sound.

Composition & Production

As performers, they have appeared at prestigious international venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Paris Philharmonie, Ronnie Scott’s, Barbican and NSW Art Gallery to name a few and have also performed at festivals all over the world including Glastonbury, We Out Here, North Sea Jazz (Holland), Umbria Jazz (Italy) Strawberry Fields (Australia), Shanghai Jazz (China) and many more. Additionally, they have worked as session musicians with a plethora of artists including Grace Jones, Katie B, Odyssey, The Temptations, Aloe Blacc, and dozens more. As composers, aside from releasing several albums, EPs and singles, they have contributed music to several television and multimedia platforms, which is showcased on our Media page.

The Studio

At the heart of a22music is a studio built around a carefully curated collection of vintage analogue equipment and instruments.

The space includes:

• Vintage synthesizers and drum machines
• Acoustic drum kits
• Fender Rhodes electric piano
• Acoustic piano
• Analogue preamps and high-end microphones

This commitment to real instrumentation allows for a sonic character that stands apart from much of today’s fully digital production landscape.

Where required, Ed and Hamish collaborate with some of the UK’s finest session musicians to expand arrangements and deliver fully realised productions across genres.

From dark electronic textures to soulful jazz, orchestral chamber writing to minimal piano-led compositions, a22music offers versatility without compromising character.
